In addition, the influences of Buddhism and Hinduism on Christ’s message are there if you are open to looking for them. After all, Christ’s message was very radical for its time. We had a long discussion of why Moore’s imagined life for Christ maybe wasn’t that far off the mark. Would she find it funny? Would she get what Moore was trying to do? Would she be offended? I cannot tell you the relief I felt when she told me that she’d finished the book and found much food for thought within it. I’ll admit that when I found out that my mom was reading Lamb, I was a little worried. How can I listen to her about this book?” Well, I’ll tell you why … Lamb passed the ultimate test of being read (and loved) by my mother–a deeply spiritual and church-going Catholic who somehow got her hands on the copy of Lamb I had sent to my brother. Now I’m sure you’re probably thinking “Jenners must be s ome kind of disrespectful heathen who obviously has no respect for religion. Yet Moore manages to do something amazing: write a fully realized and respectful imagining of Christ’s life and how he “came to be that way” while not missing an opportunity to be irreverent and funny. I don’t know many writers who would attempt taking on this subject … especially when their work includes titles like Island of the Sequined Love Nun. Told by Christ’s pal Biff (inventor of sarcasm and a bit of a sex fiend), Lamb balances a very fine line.

Since I’d mistakenly started with the second book of his vampire trilogy, I backtracked and read the rest of them (Bloodsucking Fiends and Bite Me).
